
Orange Drops Home Opener In Five

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Orange volleyball squad (7-7) fell to the Binghamton Bearcats (2-12) in a 3-2 loss this evening in the season home opener at the Women's Building. Despite capturing wins in the first two sets, SU could not overcome the Bearcats in the remaining three sets to secure an Orange victory.
"Looking back I think that we need to address our mistakes and work with our coach to get better," freshman Silvi Uattara said.
Uattara led the Orange offense with a match-high 21 kills, while Gosia Wlaszczuk recorded a career-best 15 kills and added 10 assists. Samantha Hinz led the Orange with four blocks, including one solo block.
After controling the match through the second set, the Orange fell short in the final three sets, hitting at a .316 clip in the fifth set. Iva Partaleva led the Bearcat offense with 19 kills, while Kristin Hovie and Grace Vickers both added 15 kills apiece. Vickers also led the defense with five blocks, while Amanda Dettmann added 48 assists in the Bearcat victory.
Syracuse will travel to Marquette this weekend to take on the Golden Eagles (9-3) on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. This weekend's match is the BIG EAST opener for both teams.
