
Syracuse Travels to Marquette For BIG EAST Opener

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse volleyball squad (7-7) will travel to Marquette this weekend as the Orange and the Golden Eagles (9-3) kick off BIG EAST play. The first set will begin at 1 p.m. in the Al McGuire Center.
SU is coming off a bitter loss to Binghamton on Wednesday, where the Orange fell to the Bearcats 3-2, after leading 2-0 heading into the third set. Despite the loss, Syracuse leads the BIG EAST in blocking, averaging 2.53 blocks per set, ranking 36th nationally.
Freshman Silvi Uattara made her way up the BIG EAST standings this week, ranking fifth in kills and averaging 3.60 kills per set. Senior Samantha Hinz moved to fifth in blocks, after recording four blocks against Binghamton, including one solo block.
The Orange will have to contend with Marquette's outside hitter Lindsey Gosh, who leads the team and the conference averaging 0.58 service aces, ranking seventh nationally. Setter Elizabeth Koberstein will also anchor the Golden Eagles, averaging 11.28 assists per set, ranking her fourth in the league and 30th nationally. The Golden Eagles offense also features 2011 AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, Danielle Carlson, who has tallied 120 kills in 2012, averaging 2.79 kills per set.
Syracuse will return home to host Niagara on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Women's Building.
