SU Swept By Nebraska-Omaha

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Despite a career-high effort from freshman Silvi Uattara, the Orange volleyball squad dropped a hard fought match to Nebraska-Omaha in three sets (27-29, 21-25, 19-25).
Uattara led the Syracuse offense tying her career-high mark with nine kills, tallying a career-high five digs. Junior Samantha Clarey added eight kills, five digs and one block. Setter Emily Betteridge led with 19 assists while junior Amanda Kullman added a career-high eight assists.
Lindsay McCabe continued to show consistency at the net, leading the Orange defense with five blocks, while sophomore Nicolette Serratore racked up three blocks.
The Mavericks jumped out with the lead from the start of the first set, closing in on match point at 23-14. SU rallied back with an impressive 10-0 run to tie the score at 24-24. As the Mavericks regained momentum, the set was tied again at 26-26, before kills by UNO's Valerie Hecht and Jessy Schroedter ended the Orange comeback. UNO took the first set 27-29.
Seeking revenge in the second set, SU only let UNO ahead by two points until a string of kills from offensive leader Natalie Ebke, pulled the Mavericks ahead by five at 22-17. Unable to take the lead, the Orange fell to UNO 21-25 in the second set.
With only two lead changes in the third set, Syracuse could not regain control of the lead to stay in the match, as the Mavericks swept the Orange in three sets.
Syracuse will round out their 10-day road venture with a trip to Ames, Iowa to face Iowa, Iowa State and Eastern Washington in the Iowa State Tournament this weekend.
