ERIE, P.A. - The Syracuse ice hockey team was shut out for the first time this season in a CHA matchup at No. 7 Mercyhurst, 1-0. The Orange are now 4-2-1 in CHA play and 10-9-1 overall. Senior Holly Carrie-Mattimoe registered a team-high five shots in the loss while junior goaltender Kallie Billadeau posted 24 saves.

The game remained scoreless for the first two periods and into the third frame. At 3:08 into the first period Mercyhurst took a 1-0 lead. Christie Circero scored for the Lakers and the goal was assisted by Christine Betsland.

SU fell short on netting the equalizer after pulling Billadeau with 51 seconds left. The Lakers held a 25-24 advantage in shots and goaltender Amanda Makela had 24 saves in the shutout win. The Orange had nine shots to Mercyhurst's five in the third period.

This is the sixth loss out of the Orange's nine that SU has only lost by one goal.

The two teams face off tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
