SU Falls to No. 7 Mercyhurst, 4-1

ERIE, P.A. - The Syracuse ice hockey team was defeated at No. 7 Mercyhurst, 4-1, this afternoon at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Senior Jacquie Greco scored the Orange's (10-10-1, 4-3-1 CHA) only tally of the game. Kallie Billadeau made 34 saves in the conference loss.
Mercyhurt's Emily Janiga scored three-straight goals to give Mercyhurst a 3-0 lead by the third minute in the second period. Two of her goals were scored on the power play.
At 16:31, Molly Byrne was called for checking, giving SU the man advantage. Only 14 seconds later, another Laker was penalized, this time Vaila Higson was called for high sticking. Greco took advantage of the 5-on-3 opportunity, scoring her sixth goal of the season. Both Brittney Krebs and Melissa Piacentini were credited with the assists.
Greco's goal was the second this week, for she scored against Colgate on Tuesday in a 6-0 Orange win. Piacentini finished the week with three assists, two coming against the Raiders. Krebs had three points this weekend, scoring a goal and notching an assist on Tuesday.
At 2:29 in the third period, Shelby Bram scored another goal, securing the Laker's victory.
The Orange was 1-for-12 on the power play, registering 15 of their 30 shots on the power play. Even though Mercyhurst outshot SU, 38-30, the Orange held a 16-12 shot advantage in the second period.
SU continues its five game road swing on Tuesday, Jan. 15, when it travels to Cornell at 7 p.m.
