LOUISVILLE – The Syracuse softball team will open the 2013 campaign receiving votes, according to the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Associations (NFCA) Top 25 Preseason Poll that was released this afternoon.
SU will face off against nine opponents ranked among the top 25 this year, including three top 10 foes in the preseason poll. Syracuse also has three games scheduled against three teams receiving votes as well.
The Orange will meet its first two ranked squads at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif., taking on #14 Florida and #21 Stanford. Syracuse is then slated to square off against its highest ranked team, #3 California in the Spring Fling Tournament. The Orange is no stranger to top-ranked competition though, after defeating #2/2 Arizona State in a 1-0 victory last year in the Tempe Regional Championship Final. Â The triumph marked the highest ranked opponent that SU has ever beaten in program history.
With spring training fully underway, Syracuse is busy preparing to kick off of the 2013 season, which will begin on the road in the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C. from February 15 to February 17, 2013.
