Orange Shuts Out Penn State, 1-0

SYRACUSE, NY - In its third-straight shutout against Penn State, the women's ice hockey team defeated the Nittany Lions, 1-0, at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Freshman Nicole Renault scored her first goal of her career for the Orange (13-11-1, 7-3-1 CHA) while junior goaltender Kallie Billadeau recorded her sixth shutout of the season.
The lone goal of the game would come in the first period. Junior forward Margot Scharfe passed the puck to freshman Melissa Piacentini in the left circle. Piacentini skated behind the goal and up to the blue line where she exchanged the puck with Renualt. Renault skated straight to the net and took a shot near the right post, scoring her first goal of her career at 6:49.
Both teams fought hard in the second period to try and net a goal, but the CHA opponents came up short. SU outshot PSU, 15-5, in the second frame.
Penn State pulled goaltender, Nicole Paniccia, with 44 seconds left in the third period, but the Orange fought off the extra attacker and held on to the win.
Overall, the Orange outshot the Nittany Lions, 46-13. In the two meeting priors to tonight's game, Syracuse defeated PSU, 4-0 and 6-0.
Both teams were scoreless on the power play. Syracuse held Penn State to 0-for-3 while the Orange went 0-for-2 on the man advantage.
Billadeau notched 13 saves against Penn State.
The two teams meet again tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
