A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse overcame a slow start and posted its fourth consecutive victory in a 55-44 win at USF on Sunday, Jan. 6.
The Bulls used a 9-0 scoring run to take a 17-7 lead at the 12:33 mark of the first half. A layup by junior C.J. Fair ended SU's scoring drought and the Orange battled back to cut the deficit to 21-16 with 9:06 remaining. Senior Brandon Triche hit a jumper at the 8:48 mark, sparking Syracuse on a 12-2 scoring outburst that gave it a 30-23 halftime lead.
USF cut the lead to three early in the second half, but that was close as the Bulls would get. The Orange steadily pulled away as it led by as many as 12.
Triche led Syracuse with 20 points, while Fair posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior James Southerland added 17 points off the bench.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
Providence enters Wednesday's game with an overall record of 8-6. The Friars are still looking for their first BIG EAST victory of the year, having lost to Louisville and DePaul in their first two league contests.
