SYRACUSE, N.Y. - A dominating three-goal second half led No. 3 Syracuse (12-1) to a 3-1 victory vs. New Hampshire (7-6) on Sunday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium to run the Orange's home winning streak to 42 games.
Emma Russell scored two goals and Karlee Farr scored once for SU while Jess Jecko made eight saves in goal to earn the victory.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Syracuse took control in the second stanza, scoring two goals less than a minute apart in the 47th and 48th minutes, and adding an insurance goal in the 66th minute. The Orange outshot the Wildcats, 11-3, in the second half to give the home club a 21-11 advantage overall.
The Wildcats pressured the Orange in the early going, taking a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when Emma Compagna took a pass from Meg Flatley across the front of the goal and scored inside the right post.
The Orange turned the tables in the second half, finally breaking through with 23:01 remaining when Russell took a long lead pass from Lindsey Nerbonne and blazed up the left side and beat UNH goalie Carlie Tarbell (12 saves) to tie the game, 1-1.
Just 49 seconds later, with 22:12 left, Karlee Farr moved into the right side of the circle and used a spin move to put Tarbell out of position and slid the ball inside the left post to give the Orange its first lead. The goal was the sixth of the year for the freshman from Lititz, Pa. and her fifth in the last three games.
Russell struck again with 4:54 left when she knocked home the rebound of a Lauren Brooks shot to put SU up 3-1. The sophomore from Enniskerry, Ireland's second goal of the game was her ninth of the season.
The Orange returns to ACC play on Friday when it heads to College Park, Md. to take on undefeated and top-ranked Maryland in a 6 p.m. game.
