COLLEGE PARK, Md. - No. 1 Maryland scored with 49 seconds remaining in regulation and again 2:37 into overtime to defeat No. 4 Syracuse, 2-1, on Friday evening at the Terrapins' Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Karlee Farr scored for the Orange (12-2, 2-2 ACC) with 21:01 left in the second half to break a scoreless tie before the Terrapins (15-0, 4-0 ACC) mounted their late comeback.

Jill Witmer scored her 14th goal of the season in the 73rd minute, converting on a penalty corner to give Maryland the victory. The goal came after the home team tied the game Maxine Fluharty's goal in the final minute that Syracuse goalkeeper Jess Jecko got a piece of, but trickled into the goal to tie the game, sending it into overtime.

The Terrapins pulled their goalie in favor of a kicking back with 5:25 left in regulation. After the Orange promptly fought off a pair of Maryland penalty corners, SU earned to successive penalty corners of its own with under two minutes left, but could not add its second goal.

After a defensive battle in the first half that saw the game scoreless after 35 minutes of play with the Terps holding a 7-5 edge in shots, Farr put Syracuse ahead with her seventh goal of the season and sixth in the last four games. She took a pass on the run from Leonie Geyer for the senior's team-best 11th assist of the season.

Jecko finished with seven saves in goal for the Orange, while Natalie Hunter made six stops for Maryland. The Terps finished with an 18-13 shot advantage.

Syracuse returns home next weekend to host a pair of games at J.S. Coyne Stadium. On Saturday, Oct. 26, SU hosts Wake Forest in a ACC match-up, and on Sunday, Oct. 27, Cornell comes to town for non-conference game.
