CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Under the guidance of head coach Jim Boeheim, Syracuse was picked to finish second in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Preseason Poll, announced on Wednesday in Charlotte. Senior forward C.J. Fair edged out Virginia's Joe Harris to collect Preseason ACC Player of the Year honors.
The Orange received three first place votes, putting them behind ACC-favorite, Duke, which garnered 50 of 54 first place votes. North Carolina, which came in at third, grabbed the other first place vote.
Fair, who elected to return to Syracuse for his senior season, received 17 votes to earn ACC Player of the Year recognition. Harris finished with 16 first place votes. Both players, along with Duke's Rodney Hood and Jabari Parker, and Notre Dame's Jerian Grant, the older brother of SU sophomore forwrad Jerami Grant, all made the Preseason All-ACC team. Parker was also named the Preseason Rookie of the Year while Syracuse freshman guard Tyler Ennis picked up one vote.
The Orange are embarking on the program's first campaign as a member of the ACC and are coming off a season that saw the team finish 30-10 with a trip to the NCAA semifinals.
