ST. THOMAS, U.S.V.I. -Â Syracuse women's basketball plays for the Paradise Jam Reef Division title Saturday night when it takes on the No. 12/11 Texas A&M Aggies in the final game at the UVI Sports & Fitness Center at 8:15 p.m. ET.
The Orange (7-0) has used two wins thus far at the Paradise Jam to remain undefeated on the season and guarantee itself at least a share of the Reef Division title. SU opened with a 77-65 win vs. Texas on Thursday, followed by a 77-58 win over Memphis on Friday. The Aggies (4-1) opened with a 69-59 win vs. Memphis on Thursday before losing to Texas on Friday, 69-58.
SERIES HISTORY
• This will be the first-ever game between the Orange and Aggies.
•  Unfamiliar foes has been a theme for SU at the Paradise Jam. Thursday's game vs. Texas was the first between the Orange and Longhorns, while Friday's game vs. Memphis was just the second game in the series. SU beat the Tigers in 1994-95.
ABOUT THE PARADISE JAM
• The U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam offers mens and womens college basketball teams a chance for excellent early season competition in an exotic island setting. Since the tournaments inception in 2000, many of the nations finest men and womens teams have converged on St. Thomas to test their skills and enjoy some fun in the sun.
Since 2001, the tournament has been played at the 4,000-seat UVI Sports and Fitness Center.
• This year, the women's tournament consists of two divisions: Reef Division (Syracuse, Memphis, Texas, Texas A&M) playing evening games, and the Island Division (Central Michigan, Duke, Kansas, Xavier) playing in the afternoon.
• The men's tournament was played Nov. 22-25.
'CUSE TAMES TIGERS
•  Brianna Butler matched her career-high with 23 points to lead Syracuse to a 77-58 victory over Memphis (3-4) on day two of the Paradise Jam on Friday night. The Orange used runs of 22-2 and 15-0 to remain unbeaten on the season.
•  The sophomore guard shot 5-of-7 from 3-point range to lead all scorers, while her classmate and backcourt mate, Brittney Sykes, added 18 points, six rebounds and a team-high five assists. Taylor Ford rounded out the three Orange sophomores in double figures with 10 points, all during a key 22-2 first-half run that put SU in control of the game. Shakeya Leary had a near double-double with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
•  Syracuse shot 45.2 percent overall, including 7-of-17 from 3-point range, while limiting Memphis to 37.5 percent shooting. The Orange also controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Tigers, 43-32.
ORANGE WRANGLES LONGHORNS
•  Sophomores Brianna Butler and Brittney Sykes combined for 35 points to lead Syracuse to a 77-65 victory vs. Texas (3-2) in the Orange's first game of the Paradise Jam on Thursday at the UVI Sports & Fitness Center.
•  Butler scored 18 points and Sykes tallied 17 to lead four Orange in double-figures. La'Shay Taft scored 15 points, all in the second half, and Rachel Coffey netted a season-high 13 points to go with a team-best four assists.
•  Syracuse used some hot 3-point shooting in the second half to turn what was a five-point halftime lead into what eventually grew into a 23-point advantage with 3:21 to go before Texas closed the game on a 17-8 run, resulting in the 12-point Orange win.
UP NEXT
•  The Orange briefly returns home to Central New York after Saturday's game vs. Texas A&M before hitting the road again, going to Iowa to face the Hawkeyes on Wednesday night in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
