SU Takes On No. 3 Cornell

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—The Syracuse ice hockey team takes on Cornell in its second game at the Onondaga War Memorial on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. and will be televised on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel. The Orange is 7-6-2 on the season after defeating Colgate, 2-1 last Tuesday in its first game at the War Memorial.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED
• Cornell is 9-1-2 on the season, suffering its first loss in its last outing against No. 7/8 Boston College this past Saturday. Its only other non-wins were ties against No. 6 Harvard (3-3) and No. 9/10 Quinnipiac (1-1). The team is currently ranked third in the nation in this week's USCHO.com poll.
• The Big Red has played just four games on the road so far this season, winning two and tying twice.
• Cornell averages 4.00 goals per game, the second-most in the nation behind No. 1 Minnesota. They also rank first on the power play, converting 30.9 percent of the time, which will test the Orange penalty kill unit that ranks eighth in the nation.
• Emily Fulton leads the team in points with 22 on the season off eight goals and 14 assists. Fulton is ranked first in the nation in points per game, averaging 1.83, and assists per game (1.17).
• Jessica Campbell and Jillian Saulnier are tied for the fourth best points per game mark, averaging 1.58 with 19 points in 12 games played. Saulnier leads the team in goals with 11 on the season, which ranks her first in the country in goals per game, averaging .92 per contest.
• Lauren Slebodnick is the Big Red net minder, starting all 12 games so far this season. She has a 9-0-2 record which gives her a .909 winning percentage that ranks third in the nation. She has a .922 save percentage and a 1.96 goals against average.

LAST MINUTE VICTORY OVER COLGATE
• Syracuse started its series at the Onondaga War Memorial with a win, defeating the Raiders in the last minute of play last Tuesday night.
• Allie LaCombe notched the game-winner with 35 seconds left in regulation, her third winning shot of the season which ties her for second in the nation.
• The Orange also used a late goal in the second to tie the game at 1-1 with 13 seconds remaining in the period. Freshman Heather Schwarz scored her first of her career to tie the game, flicking one in during a scrum in front of the net.
• With this win, Syracuse moves to 7-6-2 on the season and 3-2-1 at home. This is the second consecutive win for SU when playing at the War Memorial. The Orange last played at the downtown Syracuse location on Feb. 21, 2009, defeating St. Anslem 4-1.

AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS
• Tuesday's bout with the Big Red will be the fourth time this season Syracuse has taken on a No. 3 ranked team.
• So far this season the Orange has a 2-3-1 record against nationally ranked opponents.
• Most recently, SU took on No. 10 Mercyhurst on the road and came out 0-1-1 on the weekend.
• Syracuse defeated No. 4/3 Boston College at home in a decisive 4-1 victory but two weeks before fell to No. 3 Clarkson both at home and away.
• The Orange opened the 2013-14 season by defeating No. 10 Northeastern to claim its fourth all-time victory over a ranked team. The squad had not defeated a top-10 opponent since 2010 when they outmatched No. 8 New Hampshire.
• SU was 0-9 against ranked opponents last season after losing to No. 9 Mercyhurst in the CHA finals.
• All-time, the Orange holds a 5-39-2 record against nationally ranked opponents.

HOME SWEET HOME
• This Tuesday the Orange plays its second of three games this season at the Onondaga War Memorial in downtown Syracuse.
• All-time, Syracuse is 36-38-6 at Tennity and 2-1-0 at the Onondaga War Memorial, which adds up to a .494 winning percentage.
• So far this season Syracuse has a 3-2-1 record at home, defeating No. 4/3 Boston College, Union and Colgate and losing in close matches with No. 3 Clarkson and RV Robert Morris. They also tied against RMU.
• The Orange tallied a 10-8-0 overall record in Syracuse last season, including a 6-4-0 conference record at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
• SU has had a winning home record just three times in program history, going 6-5-1 in 2008-09 and 9-8-3 in 2010-11.

READY FOR THEIR CLOSE UP
• Syracuse will have two home games televised this season for the first time in program history. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel is broadcasting the Colgate and Cornell games being played at the War Memorial.
• Every home game and road CHA game is streamed live online on AmericaOneSports.com.
• In total, TWCS has agreed to air seven games involving College Hockey America teams. Rochester Institute of Technology will host five TV games including two against Syracuse.

A DIFFERENT HOME ICE
• Syracuse will be playing three home contests at the Onondaga War Memorial in downtown Syracuse this season.
• The Orange defeated Colgate in the first game of its series at the War Memorial, taking a 2-1 victory over the Raiders.
• SU faced Colgate on Nov. 26 and will play Cornell on Dec. 3 and St. Lawrence on Feb. 14.
• The Orange played two contests at the War Memorial in the program's first season in 2008-09, going 1-1 against Mercyhurst (L, 1-4) and St. Anslem (W, 4-1).

SPECIAL TEAMS SUCCESS
• Syracuse is currently ranked 13th in the nation on the power play, converting 18.0 percent of the time. SU is the only CHA school ranked in the top-15 in this category. Penn State is the next best man-up performer, scoring 14.8 percent of the time (20th).
• The success is highlighted by an incredible performance on the power play against Union College, scoring four power play goals on five opportunities.
• Syracuse ranks eighth nationally in penalty killing, stopping opponents from scoring 89.3 percent of the time. This ranks second in the CHA behind Robert Morris, which is successful in man-down situations 89.7 percent of the time and ranks sixth in the nation.
• The Orange are currently on a streak of 13 straight successful penalty kills spanning the last four games.
• SU went on another four game streak of preventing opponent power play goals earlier this season, stopping 27 consecutive man-down situations. Penn State broke the streak, notching a power play goal in its first opportunity on Nov. 9.
• Syracuse is effective on special teams 50.6 percent of the time, either scoring or stopping the score 83-of-164 times.
• Syracuse is 16-of-89 (.180) on power plays this season and has netted 16-of-105 man-up shots (.152).
• Senior goaltenders Kallie Billadeau and Jenesica Drinkwater have combined to save 96-104 man-up shots taken by SU opponents so far this season (.923).
