Penney Sets School Record at Husky Classic

The Syracuse track and field team had a successful weekend at the Husky Classic and Kane Invitational. At the Husky Classic at the University of Washington, Lauren Penney recorded a PR in the 3000m invite, coming in fifth place with a time of 9:06. Penney's time also broke her own school record of 9:12 that she set in 2012. At the Kane Invitational at Cornell University, The Orange had five athletes race to first place finishes.
Freshman Brianna Nerud competed in the one mile race at the Husky Classic. She notched a time of 5:21.85 in the first time running the race for SU.
Matt Brinkley and Sean Carney took the first and second spots in the 500-m dash at Cornell. Brinkley finished in 1:07, while Carney recorded a time of 1:08. Ryan Urie also recorded a first place finish in the men's 1000m with a time of 2:30.78. Martin Hehir took the title in the 3000m race after finishing in 8:10.93 while Pagano finished in first on the women's side (9:40.74). Sa'De Lewis finished first in the 60m hurdles in 8.58, setting a new PR. Erica Belanger finished first in the high jump at 1.65m.
Joshua Hayman notched a time of 1:58 in the 800m race, which put him in 13th place. In the mile, Andrew Nelson placed third with a time of 4:13 while Forrest Misenti came in fourth after registering a time of 4:15.
Following Hehir in the 3000m race was Robert Molke who came in third with a time of 8:23.26. Reed Kamyszek finished in fifth (8:24.01), Max Straneva in sixth (8:24.70), Tito Medrano in seventh (8:25.37), Dan Lennon in eighth (8:28.38), Joseph Whelan in ninth (8:28.79), Andrew Bennison in 10th (8:29.63), Jon Aziz in 12th (8:42.66, David Wilson in 15th (8:51.15) and Joseph Kush in 22md (8:59.87).
The 60-m hurdles featured Donald Pollitt, who finished in 7.86, and set a PR. In the high jump, Jabari Butler finished in second place with a mark of 1.99m. Will Watson also claimed a second place finish, this time in the long jump with a jump of 7.13m.
For the women, Sabrina Cammock came in third place in the 60m finals with a mark of 7.71. Kim Watterson placed 14th in the 400m race with a time of 1:01.31. In the 800m run, Molly Malone registered a time of 2:15.08, which was good for fifth place, while Julissa Wilson placed 11th (2:20.13), Elizabeth Reynolds placed  26th (2:25.56) ane Harron Young came in 24th (2:25.20).
Beth Wright took a second place finish in the 1000m after running a time of 2:58.41. Christina Lipuma's time of 3:10.09 and Corinne Stockmal's time of 3:10.99 placed them at 17th and 18th in the same race and Lauren Pabisch finished in 22nd (3:18.45). Maura Linde and Bridget Twomey competed in the mile finished fourth (5:04.53) and 21st (5:29.68) respectively.
The Orange had multiple athletes compete in the 3000m along with Pagano. Finishing in second was Jessie Peterson (9:43.41), third Shaylyn Tuite (9:50.25), fourth Erin Cawley (9:52.49), fifth Brenna Symoniak (9:59.34), sixth Margo Malone (10:10.75), seventh Alexandra Clinton (10:12.78), eighth Kimberly Spano (10:30.00), ninth Angelica Peck (10:26.22), 11th Katie Kinkead (10:42.14) and 15th Rebecca Skodis (10:48.64). Â
Mikayla Pearce came in second in the long jump with a mark of 5.87m while Klarissa Ricks took fifth with a jump of 5.46.Â
