SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange tennis team (4-5) will look to improve its four-game winning streak on the road this weekend, traveling to No.34 Illinois and No. 69 DePaul for a pair of challenging matches. Last weekend, Syracuse went 2-0 at home in Drumlins with a 7-0 win against Binghamton and a 6-1 victory against Pittsburgh for the first SU BIG EAST triumph of the season.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
This weekend marks the first meeting between SU and Illinois. The Illini fell three spots to No. 34 in the ITA ranking. The duo of Rachael White and Melissa Kopinski dropped to No. 21 in doubles, while Kopinski is ranked 106th in singles. Junior Allison Falkin is also ranked at 119th.
DePaul is on a seven-game winning streak after picking up a 6-1 win against Michigan State last week. The Kelsey Lawson and Matea Cutura tandem also extended their streak to seven straight doubles matches, while freshman Ana Vladutu improved to 18-7 in singles in her rookie season.
SUPER STREAKING:
Several SU tennis student-athletes are leading the way with unbeaten streaks in singles and doubles competition. Sophomore Amanda Rodgers has won the last six straight singles matches on court three. The duos of Rodgers and sophomore Komal Safdar have also combined for six consecutive doubles victories. Junior Maddie Kobelt has also combined for five straight singles triumphs.
