CHICAGO, Ill – Rebounding from a bitter loss earlier this weekend, the Syracuse Orange tennis team (5-6, 2-1) posted a 4-3 victory against BIG EAST opponent #69 DePaul (9-3, 1-1) on Sunday afternoon at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness.
Despite suffering an earlier loss on court two of the doubles competition, junior Maddie Kobelt and freshman Brittany Lashway tallied an 8-5 win on court one, before sophomore Komal Safdar and junior Aleah Marrow won the doubles point for the Orange with an 8-6 triumph on court two.
Heading into the singles matches with momentum, SU dropped a pair of early contests on courts one and four. Lashway and sophomores Breanna Bachini and Jimena Wu kept Syracuse alive with two wins on courts six and three. Bachini topped Zaina Sufi by a score of 6-3, 6-3 and Wu battled to a 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-4 victory.
Finishing last, Sophomore Amanda Rodgers clinched the match with a gritty 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-4) win against Patricia Fargas, for the Orange's second straight conference win.
Syracuse will return to action on Sunday, March 17, hosting non-conference opponent Princeton at 10 a.m. in the Drumlins Tennis Center.
