SYRACUSE – The Orange tennis team's home win streak ended against #64 Princeton. The Orange (5-7) scored the doubles point, but lost four of six singles matches to the Tigers (8-3). It was SU's first loss at home in five matches.
Senior Maddie Kobelt and freshman Brittany Lashway opened the match with an 8-3 doubles win on court one. Following a loss on court two, it was up to sophomore Jimena Wu and freshman Sophia Dzulynsky to decide the doubles point on court three. The tandem battled point-for-point with Katherine Flanigan and Emily Hahn, before emerging with an 8-6 triumph to clinch the point.
Syracuse picked up the first singles point on court one after Amanda Muliawan forfeited the match with an injury. The Tigers did not let the early disappointment carry into the rest of the singles competition though, as Princeton picked up a pair of early wins on courts two and three.
With the match tied at 3-3 after sophomore Breanna Bachini claimed a close 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win on court five, Lashway's match on court four against Monica Chow was the deciding factor. After dropping the first set in a close 7-5 finish, Lashway couldn't overcome Chow for the victory, falling 6-2 to end the match.
The Orange will remain home for the next week of competition. Syracuse will host Seton Hall and Providence in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23 before taking on Army at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27 in the Drumlins Tennis Center.
