SU Sweeps Seton Hall and Providence, 7-0

SYRACUSE – The Syracuse tennis team (7-7, 4-1) claimed a pair of sweeping victories against Seton Hall and Providence today, shutting out both the Pirates and Friars in back-to-back, 7-0 triumphs at the Drumlins Tennis Center. The pair of wins also marks the fourth consecutive BIG EAST victory for the Orange.
Syracuse grabbed the lead from the start of the contest against the Pirates and didn't look back, winning all three doubles matches to open the competition.
Sophomores Komal Safdar and Amanda Rodger quickly dominated Madison Shoemaker and Julia Keenan, 8-1, while junior Maddie Kobelt and freshman Brittany Lashway cruised past Chole Sher and Rocio Portela with an 8-2 victory. Junior Aleah Marrow and sophomore Jimena Wu sealed the point for SU with an 8-4 win on court one.
The momentum carried over into the singles competition as the Orange captured two more points from Marrow and Wu on courts six and three. Shortly after, Kobelt and sophomore Breanna Bachini followed with two-set victories to extend the lead to 5-0.
Giving up just two points during her singles match, Lashway took down Maria Rodriguez by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Rodgers then clinched the shutout with a close 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 win against Sher to end the match.
The Orange returned to the court for its second matchup of the day against Providence looking to build on its success.
Syracuse stayed hot in the doubles competition as freshman Alex Aiello and Bachini, dismantled the Providence duo of Karen Ramirez and Hannah Zangari, 8-2. The victory was Aiello's first collegiate doubles win.
Rodgers and Safdar added an 8-3 win before Kobelt and Lashway rounded out the doubles competition with a close 8-5 victory to ensure the second straight doubles point for SU.
Five-of-six Orange competitors registered their second straight singles victories of the day as Syracuse took a 5-0 lead with wins from Marrow, Rodgers, Safdar and Kobelt. Wu battled in the longest singles match of the day before defeating Alana Prinos by a score of 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.
Aiello then concluded the day's work with her first singles victory of the day, beating Hannah Zangari 6-2, 6-1.
The Orange is back in action next week hosting its last home match of the season. SU will take on Army in a midweek matchup Wednesday March 27, 2013 at 1p.m.
