SU Hosts Pirates and Friars at Drumlins

SYRACUSE – The Syracuse tennis team (5-7) will host EAST Conference opponents Seton Hall (3-8) and Providence (10-3) in a double header on Saturday, March 23 at the Drumlins Tennis Center. The Orange will take on the Pirates at 10 a.m. and then face the Friars at 3 p.m. to conclude the afternoon.

WEEK IN REVIEW:
SU will look to rebound this week after a tough loss to Princeton last weekend. Despite sophomore Jimena Wu and freshman Sophia Dzulynsky clinching the doubles point for Syracuse, the Orange came up short in the singles competition, winning just two-of-six singles matches before losing 4-3.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
Providence is currently riding a three-game winning streak, after posting 7-0 sweeps against Hartford, Holy Cross and Rhode Island to improve to 10-3 in 2013. The Friars are led by senior Marisela Aviles-Duron, who recently became the Providence College all-time leader in doubles wins with 56 victories in the No. 1 doubles position. Aviles-Duron is also at the top of the all-time list in combined wins in the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles position with 128.

Seton Hall is 3-8 in 2013, having earned two of its three wins consecutively in the last pair of Pirate outings. SHU defeated both Vanguard and Point Loma Nazarene 8-1 in San Diego, Calif. on March 6 and 7 and hasn't returned to the court since. Senior captain Karina Cordero is at the helm of the team so far, having registered wins in two of her last three matches at the No. 4 position.

UP NEXT:
The Orange will conclude its 2013 home slate next week, welcoming Army to Drumlins for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, March 27 at 1 p.m.
