Syracuse, N.Y. – The Orange tennis squad (7-6, 4-1) will host Army in a midweek matchup at Drumlins before hitting the road, traveling to Connecticut and Harvard for a pair of weekend matches. The contest against the Black Knights marks the final home match for SU, as it will conclude the rest of the regular season on the road.
WEEK IN REVIEW:
Syracuse claimed a pair of sweeping victories against BIG EAST conference opponents Seton Hall and Providence at home. SU recorded its fourth consecutive league win with two back-to-back 7-0 shutouts against the Pirates and the Friars. In addition to winning every single doubles and singles match, five-of-six Orange returned to claim their second straight singles win of the day against Providence, with the sixth making her first singles appearance of the day.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
Army will enter the weekend looking to extend an eight-match winning streak, having posted three straight 7-0 shutouts in their last few outings. Erin Colton and Jamila Paul are the Black Knight's most dangerous duo, leading the team with 14 doubles wins this season. Paul is also pacing the team with a perfect 7-0 record in the No. 1 singles position. Freshman Gabriella Spindler has already recorded an impressive freshman campaign, after claiming her sixth straight win last season to improve to 20-6 on the season.
Connecticut is riding a three-match winning streak, having posted a 3-1 record on its spring break trip to Florida. Freshman Srna Stosljevic is leading the team right now, after recording a perfect 4-0 week split between the No. 1 and No. 2 singles position. Paired with teammate Maxene Weinberg, Stosljevic also went 4-0 in doubles, defeating every single doubles opponent across the week-long span.
Syracuse and Harvard will meet this weekend for the first time since 1995 this weekend. The Crimson are currently 7-4 in 2013 and entering the weekend on a high note, after defeating Farleigh Dickinson 7-0 last week. Harvard has won five of its last six matches, claiming the doubles point in the five consecutive outings. Amy He is pacing Harvard in dual match competitions, with a team-high 7-1 record, while Amanda Lin is leading with an 18-3 overall record.
DYNAMIC DOUBLES:
With two consecutive doubles wins last weekend, sophomores Komal Safdar and Amanda Rodgers stretched their winning streak to eight straight matches. Newly paired junior Maddie Kobelt and freshman Brittany Lashway have been unstoppable on court one doubles, having registered victories in the last five consecutive matches.
