SYRACUSE, NY - The Syracuse women's tennis team won its third straight match by a score of 7-0 against Army this afternoon at Drumlins Tennis Center. It was the last match at home for the Orange (8-6) of the 2013 season. Â
The Orange started off the match sweeping all three doubles matches and jumping to an early 1-0 lead against the Black Knights. On court one, Maddie Koblet and Brittany Lashway dropped Della Taylor and Elle Taylor, 8-1.
A 8-3 victory on court two by Komal Safdar and Amanda Rodgers against Eva Sung and Carly Riney secured the doubles point for the Orange. Not too long after the doubles point was won, Aleah Marrow and Jimena Wu won their match against Larraine Saavedra and Gabriella Spindler, 8-2, in the number three doubles position.
In singles play, Kobelt defeated Elle Taylor, 6-0 and 6-3 in the number two spot. Only giving up one point to her opponent, Lashway topped Saavedra, 6-1, 6-0 on the sixth court.
A 6-0, 6-2 victory by Marrow on court five against Haley O'Connor secured the Orange's fourth nonconference victory of the season.
On court number one, Rodgers picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win against Sung extending SU's lead to 5-0. Two wins from Safdar and Bachini on courts three and four respectively, aided the Orange to its third-straight shutout.
Syracuse travels to Connecticut on Friday, March 29 and Harvard on Saturday, March 30.Â
