SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Despite having a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning, a little light rain turned into heavy rain and forced the game between Syracuse (13-20, 1-5) and Cornell (14-16, 4-4) to be called off due to the weather.
The Orange and the Big Red will look to postpone the game for a later date during the season.
Cornell came out swinging in the first inning, posting a 2-0 lead after a single from Linda Laeufer brought in two runners. Junior Jasmine Watson responded for SU, driving in junior Shirley Daniels with a double.
Just before the weather turned for the worst, sophomore Mary Dombrowski cranked a homer to left center to give the Orange a 3-2 lead.
Syracuse will now head to Georgetown for a three-game series this weekend. The Orange and the Hoyas will square off in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 at noon and conclude the stretch with a game on Sunday, April 14 at noon.
