SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team (11-7, 7-1) will conclude the 2013 regular season this weekend on the road at Temple (8-12, 3-6). The Orange and the Owls will square off at 1 p.m. in the TU Tennis Pavilion.
In the short four-year history between the two clubs, Syracuse has never lost a match to the Owls with the most recent outing resulting in a 6-1 Orange win on March 6, 2011 at Temple.
BEASTS OF THE BIG EAST:
Last weekend SU concluded the BIG EAST slate on a high note, winning matches against St. John's and Rutgers to improve to 7-1 in conference play. Against the Red Storm, Syracuse rallied from a 1-0 deficit after losing the doubles point, taking four singles victories to win the match, 4-3. In addition to the 7-1 mark, the Orange has won six of its last seven matches with five of those victories coming to BIG EAST foes.
SCOUTING THE OWLS:
Temple will enter this weekend's matchup looking to extend its three-match winning streak, after posting a 5-2 win against St. Joseph's this week. With the victory, Alicia Doms improved to 11-7 in dual singles matches this season, having won the last four consecutive. Rebecca Breland is also a top contender for the Owls, having won her last three straight in singles play, with a 6-0 record from the No. 3 spot.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Next week, the Orange will head to Tampa, Fla. to compete in the BIG EAST Tournament for the 31st time in SU program history. Syracuse has been a perennial contender in the event, having made consecutive appearances in the last 18 seasons dating back to 1995. The four-day event will be hosted by USF and begins on April 18, with the championship match set for April 21.
