Murray Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse junior Alyssa Murray was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after her performance in three Orange victories against No. 20 Cornell, No. 7 Notre Dame and Marquette. This is the third time this season and the fourth time in her career she has received the honor. In addition, senior Becca Block was named to the weekly honor roll.
In Syracuse's 16-4 win against Cornell, Murray posted three goals and an assist while recording a career-high four caused turnovers and a personal-best five ground balls. The junior attack tied for the team lead with five points against the Fighting Irish as she notched four goals and an assist in the 11-8 Orange victory. Murray also had five points in the 18-6 win against Marquette after scoring a goal and tying her career high with four assists. Murray leads the Orange offense this season in points (70), goals (45) and assists (25).
Block anchored Syracuse's defense, which held all three opponents to less than 10 goals. She tallied four ground balls, eight draw controls and three caused turnovers in the three wins.
The No. 5/5 Orange closes out the regular season with a pair of league games this weekend. Syracuse, which is in first place in the BIG EAST standings with a 6-0 record, plays at Loyola on Friday, April 26 and at Georgetown on Sunday, April 28.
