
Rice and Daniels Named Orange Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Sophomore Kevin Rice (Skaneateles, N.Y.) of the men's lacrosse team and junior Shirley Daniels (Newnan, Ga.) of the softball team are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the Week of April 29th.
Rice is currently second on the team in points, after scoring 15 goals and registering 23 assists. Rice has 18 groundballs and has caused one turnover. Most recently against Notre Dame, he was named the Big City Classic Player of the Game after scoring one goal and recording three assists. Rice is majoring in history in the College of Arts and Sciences. He has been honored on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester and named to the 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
Daniels is tied for first with the most stolen bases in a single season with 29. On the all-time list, Daniels ranks fourth with 53 stolen bases. Daniels has 34 hits this season and 17 RBI. She has five homeruns and has an on base percentage of 4.38. Daniels is enrolled in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. She has been on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester of her career and named to both the 2010-11 and 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
Rice and the men's lacrosse team heads to the BIG EAST Tournament at Villanova this weekend and face Notre Dame. Daniels and the softball team host Cornell on Tuesday and Providence this weekend as they wrap up the regular season.
