The Orange tennis team (9-7, 5-1) will head out on the road this weekend to conclude BIG EAST play with a pair of matches against St. John's and Rutgers. Syracuse will take on the Red Storm at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, before squaring off against the Scarlet Knights at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 7.
Sophomores Amanda Rodgers and Komal Safdar will look to tie a school record this weekend, as the duo have now won the last 11 consecutive doubles matches together. The record of 13 straight contests was originally set in the 1983-84 season by Stephanie Rice and Amy Schiff.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
St. John's will enter this weekends matchup looking to build on momentum from a 6-1 win against LIU Brooklyn, improving to 7-7 overall. Senior Nevena Selakovic is leading the Red Storm from the No. 1 position, with wins in six of her last eight matches. St. John's is currently led by first year head coach Taka Bertrand, who took over the squad this fall.
Rutgers recently saw its three-match winning streak snapped this weekend with a 6-1 non-conference loss to Yale. Li is at the helm of the Scarlet Knights tennis team, posting a team-high overall record of 12-4 in singles play from court two. Petrini is leading the team in the No. 1 position with a 10-6 mark this year. Together, Petrini and Li are the double duo for RU, totaling a 9-3 record on court one, while maintaining a perfect 4-0 mark in conference doubles matches.
