SU Beats Rutgers 6-1 in BIG EAST Finale

East Brunswick, N.J. – The Syracuse tennis team (11-7) won all but one match in a 6-1 victory on the road this morning against Rutgers. With the triumph, the Orange finishes the BIG EAST slate with a 7-1 record.
SU opened the competition sweeping all three Scarlet Knight pairs for its 10th doubles point of the season. Junior Maddie Kobelt and Brittany Lashway sealed the early lead with an 8-7 (7-5) win on court one against Vanessa Petrini and Gina Li.
Heading into the singles matches, the Orange continued its dominate play, racking up four early wins in straight sets for a 5-0 lead. Rodgers knocked off Petrini by a score of 6-3, 6-2 from the No. 1 slot, while sophomore Jimena Wu registered a win from court four, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Alex Aiello allowed Lindsay Balsamo just two points in a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 6 slot.

Syracuse is back in action next weekend, heading to Temple to conclude the 2013 regular season. The first serve against the Owls is set for 1 p.m. Next up is the 2013 BIG EAST Tournament, which will be hosted by USF from Thursday, April 18 to Sunday, April 21.
