EUGENE, Or. - Lauren Penney concluded a record-breaking career this evening as she finished eighth in the NCAA Championship 5000m race at the Historic Hayward Field. Penney's time of 16:01.09 was her second consecutive top-10 finish, following her fourth place finish at the NCAA East Prelims.

This was Penney's seventh career appearance in an NCAA meet and her second in a row in the NCAA Outdoor Championship 5000m run. She leaves Syracuse with her name in the record book in four different places. This season, Penney broke her own school records in the mile (4:37.41) and 3000m run (9:06.32). She holds the outdoor records in the 1500m (4:13.86) and the 5000m (15:56.80). Penney also was the Orange cross country team's first All-American honoree.

During the indoor season, Penney finished 12th at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship in the 3000m run with a time of 9:24.70. She was named to the Division I Indoor USTFCCCA All-America second team

Tomorrow, sophomore Donald Pollitt will race for the NCAA Title in the 110m hurdles at 6:16 p.m. ET. The race will be broadcasted on ESPNU.Â
