Four former Syracuse players participated in the NBA's Las Vegas Summer League quarterfinals, and three survived as the tournament heads into the semifinals on July 21.
Guard Brandon Triche made his only shot, a three pointer, and went 3-of-4 from the charity stripe for six points as the fifth-seeded Charlotte Bobcats took down the fourth-seeded NBA D-League Select Team 85-75. Triche saw 11 minutes, 36 seconds of action and also added a steal on the defensive end.
In just over 15 minutes of play, Arinze Onuaku scored two points and pulled down three rebounds for the third-seeded Phoenix Suns in their 103-98 win against the Toronto Raptors. Through five games, Onuaku ranks ninth in Vegas with eight rebounds per game.
Scoop Jardine, a pivotal member of Syracuse's "Elite Eight" run in 2012, made his Summer League debut for the Cleveland Cavaliers, playing just under 10 minutes in the Cavs' 82-72 loss to the Miami Heat. Despite not finding the scoring column, Jardine contributed with three rebounds and an assist. Teammate Dion Waiters, did not play due to resting for the USA Basketball Men's National Team Mini-Camp.
James Southerland was held scoreless in the top-seeded Golden State Warriors' 83-77 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers to stay 5-0 and setup a date with former teammate Triche in the semifinals. Southerland had three rebounds in just over seven minutes.
