Former SU standout Demetris Nichols earned a spot on the Milwaukee Bucks entry in the NBA's Las Vegas Summer League as announced by the team's website on July 3.
The forward was drafted 53rd overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2007 NBA Draft. Nichols spent parts of his first two seasons with the Cleveland Caveliers, Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks, before joining the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA Development League in August 2012. With the Skyforce this past season, Nichols averaged 18.8 points per game, good for sixth best in the league, earning him spots on the 2013 NBA D-League First Team and All-Star Game roster.
At Syracuse, Nichols finished his career with 1,344 points, which ranks tied for 31st on the Orange's all-time scoring list. During his career at SU, Nichols ranked third in career three-pointers (205) and ninth in career three-point percentage (.364). His 100 three's during his senior year is the fourth-most in a season at Syracuse. That same season, Nichols earned Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America honors and was a first team All-BIG EAST selection and made the United States Basketball Writers of American (USBWA), National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Basketball Times all-district teams.
Milwaukee will begin play in the Las Vegas Summer League on July 13 against the Denver Nuggets as the first of their three preliminary games. Each team is guaranteed to play at least five games, and the league runs through July 22.
