2014 Schedule
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – With the addition of one more early-season tournament, the Syracuse softball team finalized its 2014 schedule and will open up its first season in the Atlantic Coast Conference on Friday, Feb. 7.
"Once again, we have a challenging schedule, but our goal is to be playing the best throughout the year so we are prepared for a post season run," said head coach Leigh Ross. "We're excited to be part of ACC softball. It's such a competitive conference."
The schedule features six teams that begin the season ranked in either the USA Today/NFCA Poll or ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25, including defending national champion Oklahoma.
Â
Syracuse will open the campaign with four straight non-conference tournaments on the road. The Mardi Gras Invitational features host-institution and nationally-ranked No. 20/22 South Alabama along with No. 21/25 UAB. After a weekend in Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the Kickin' Chicken Classic, SU will face its stiffest competition in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palms Springs, Calif. as the Orange faces off against No. 2/2 Oklahoma and No. 22/20 Stanford. In the last warm-up before conference play begins, Syracuse will take on No. 14/17 Missouri in ESPN's Citris Classic in Kissimmee, Fla.
Â
The Orange's first ACC test will come in a double header at North Carolina on March 8. Following a pair of non-conference games, SU will stop at Virginia for a three game series before returning home for 11 of the next 13 contests.
Syracuse will host conference-foes Geosrgia Tech on March 22 and 23 and Notre Dame on March 29 and 30 for three-game stands to close out March. After a brief stop at Maryland for a doubleheader, the Orange swing back home for five more games with NC State and Binghamton.
Â
SU will hit the road again for eight of the next 10 games, including a three-game series at No. 15/12 Florida State. The finale on Sunday, April 20 at 3 p.m. will be broadcast on national television by ESPNU.
Â
A home date with Virginia Tech on April 26 and 27 will close out the regular season for the Orange.
Â
The Orange's first go-around at the ACC Tournament will take place at College Park, Md. from May 8-10.
