Larissa Martyniuk netted her first goal of the season, but the Syracuse hockey team fell 4-1 to No. 10 Clarkson.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, Martyniuk evened things up in the second by firing a shot low from the slot through the Golden Knights defense for the score five minutes into the second period.
"That was much closer than a 4-1 ball game," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "I was much happier with our compete level today."
Olivia Howe put Clarkson back ahead midway through the period, a score they would take to the locker room for the second intermission.
The Orange came out for the third period strong, but were unable to find the back of the net, while the Golden Knights' Caley Mercer added two late goals to form the final result of 4-1.
Jenn Gilligan made 29 saves for the Orange in the loss.
The Orange will return to action on Friday at 7 p.m. to take on Penn State in game two of the team's seven-game home stand.
