Orange ties program record with sixth tie of the season
For the fourth time in five conference games this season, the Syracuse hockey team left the ice with points in CHA play.
Â
On Friday at Robert Morris (4-9-2, 1-3-1 CHA), the Orange (3-6-6, 2-1-2 CHA) earned its sixth deadlock of the year – which ties the single-season record in just 15 games – by playing the Colonials to a 2-2 draw in its first conference road game of the year.
Â
Freshman forward Stephanie Grossi continued her hot streak, scoring a first period goal in the fourth minute of play to extend her point streak to four-straight games.
Â
Robert Morris wasted no time tying it up though as the Colonials took advantage of a Syracuse penalty and scored on the ensuing power play less than two minutes after Grossi's goal.
Â
After heading to the locker room deadlocked at one, Robert Morris got on the board again when Mackenzie Johnston scored on feed from Rebecca Vint to take the lead early in the second period.
Â
However junior forward Melissa Piacentini wouldn't let it last long as she netted the equalizer less than one minute after Johnston's goal. Senior forward Julie Knerr had the assist on the play with 16:13 to play in the second.
Â
The teams would go on to play nearly 42 minutes without a goal after that and despite Syracuse outshooting the Colonials 32-22 on the night.
Â
'Cuse will return to action at 3:05 p.m. on Saturday for game two of the weekend series with Robert Morris.
