Syracuse Sweeps Lindenwood With 2-1 Win

Sadie St. Germain notched the game-winner in the third period to complete the sweep.

ST. CHARLES, Mo.—A two-goal third period gave the Syracuse ice hockey team (18-11-3, 9-6-3 CHA) a 2-1 victory over Lindenwood (5-23-2, 5-12-1 CHA) on Saturday afternoon in Lindenwood Ice Arena. The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the second period by the Orange rallied to sweep Lindenwood this weekend.
With this victory, head coach Paul Flanagan became the ninth winningest Division I women's hockey coach of all time.

Four different SU skaters earned a point in the contest including goals from Sadie St. Germain and Allie LaCombe and assists from Cara Johnson and Larissa Martyniuk.

The Orange dominated on offense, outshooting LU 49-16 including 21 shots on net in the first period. Jenesica Drinkwater made a season-low 15 saves, recording a .938 save percentage. Lion goaltender Nicole Hensley made 47 stops.

Despite getting 21 shots on net and holding the Lions to just seven, Syracuse couldn't get the puck past Nicole Hensley during the first 20 minutes and its 18 shots in the second period were also stopped by the Lion net minder.

After killing its own penalty, Lindenwood scored to take a 1-0 lead with 1:12 remaining in the second period when Jocelyn Slattery skated the puck up the left side, took a shot at Drinkwater, who couldn't control the rebound and Caitlyn Post shot it on her far side to notch the first goal of the game.

LaCombe tied the game at 1-1 5:33 into the final stanza when she tipped in a shot taken from the point by Martyniuk. Just one and a half minutes later, the Orange took its first lead of the game, which it would maintain for the rest of the game. Johnson stripped the puck from a Lindenwood skater, brought it in front of a goal and took a shot that St. Germain was able to rebound past Hensley.

Syracuse finishes its regular season with a home and home weekend with Rochester Institute of Technology. The Orange heads to RIT on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. and then returns to Tennity for its final game before the CHA playoffs at 4 p.m.
