SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the second straight game, the No. 4 Syracuse field hockey team will face a nationally ranked opponent in conference play when it hosts No. 11 Boston College on Saturday at J.S. Coyne Stadium. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
Saturday's game marks the second of three straight ACC contests. SU suffered a 3-0 setback at No. 1 North Carolina on Friday, Sept. 12 and goes back on the road following the BC game to Virginia on Friday, Sept. 26.

Helping Hand
Freshman midfielder Lieke Visser has hit the ground running in her first season on campus. Visser currently leads the team with nine assists on the 2014 season. The Bunnik, Netherlands native is averaging 1.28 assists per contest through the first seven games of the year.
Visser currently leads the ACC in total assists and assists per game. She also ranks fourth in the nation in assists per game. Saint Francis' (Pa.) Nikki Snyder leads the country with 1.80 assists per contest.
Against Ball State on Sunday, Sept. 7, Visser had a record-breaking day. Visser matched the program record with three assists on the day.
Back of the Net
One of the strengths of the 2014 Syracuse field hockey team has been its balanced scoring. Eight players on the club have recorded at least one goal and 11 have tallied at least one point on the year. As a result, Syracuse is tied with Louisville, North Carolina, and Virginia for first in goals per game (4.00) in the ACC. In addition, SU is tied for third in the country in goals per contest.
The team also has shown it can score on any occasion. Syracuse has scored 28 goals on the year, 14 coming in the first half of play, 13 coming in the later 35 minutes, and one in overtime. SU has scored five goals in the opening 10 minutes and five in the final 10 minutes of competition.
Series Breakdown
Syracuse owns a 19-7 all-time record against ACC-foe Boston College. The Orange has won five of the past six meetings against the Eagles and taken the past three contests at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
Last season, the two teams split their two games. Boston College defeated Syracuse, 6-3, in the regular season. SU rebounded with a 3-1 victory in the 2013 ACC Championship against the host Eagles. Emma Russell tied for the team-lead with three points (one goal, one assist) in the ACC Championship quarterfinals on Nov. 7, 2013.
