Night racing and 2014 Hall of Fame class honored
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men and women's rowing programs hosted the second annual Evening at Ten Eyck on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the James A. Ten Eyck Boathouse. In its second installation, current members of the men and women's rowing teams, alumni, and guests all came out on a beautiful September evening for night racing and Syracuse Rowing Hall of Fame inductions.

"When we designed the event, Coach Moore and I thought, as alumni, what would get us excited to come back to the boathouse," head men's rowing coach Dave Reischman stated. "In the past, we always had alumni events in November. Not the best time to come back to Syracuse. We have great September evenings. We came up with the concept of some night racing. We had a lot of fun lighting up the boathouse, decorating event space. It's a good event and the main purpose is our opportunity to say thanks to our alumni group. This is our way to thanks."
"This year, with even better weather, we are looking forward to another great event," head women's rowing coach Justin Moore said before the start of the event. "Last year, it poured, but the 230 people that were here thought it was fantastic. The reviews were phenomenal."
With lights lining the way for a 500-meter race course on the Onondaga Lake Outlet, 16 crews were put together, eight comprised of current men and women's rowers and eight of alumni. Racing took place in a match racing bracket, with preliminary rounds happening earlier in the evening and semifinals and finals taking place under the lights.
The junior "A" crew, comprised of Ariel Litovsky, Aleks Staprans, Bryce Vanderberg, Ryan McCarry, Alex Zadravec, Jonathan Dawson, Kari Tomeny, Deidra Fitzpatrick, and Yasmine Hemida, beat out the sophomore "A" boat to advance to the finals. In the finals, they defeated the alumni "D" crew for the Evening at Ten Eyck title.
Following the racing, alumni, current team members, and guests gathered for a dinner and program of the evening, highlighted by the inductions of the Syracuse Rowing Hall of Fame Class of 2014.
This year's Hall of Fame class included Steve Gladstone (1964), Clifford "Tip" Goes (1914), Drew Harrison (1968), Marty Hilfinger (1914), Dr. Tom Kerr (1939), Mark Lyvers (1977), Howard Robbins (1914), and the 1913 IRA champion varsity eight. The women's rowing team honored Mark Lyvers, the first coach in program history, as well.
