Orange Alumni Classic scheduled for Oct. 4 in the Dome
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men's lacrosse team will participate in a pair of events as part of its 2014-15 fall practice season. The program will host the fifth-annual Orange Alumni Classic on Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Carrier Dome. In addition, Syracuse wraps up fall ball on Saturday, Oct. 11 with scrimmages against Bellarmine and Binghamton at the eighth-annual HEADstrong Foundation Nicholas Colleluori Fall Lacrosse Classic at Ridley High School in Folsom, Pa.
One of most exciting events of the fall lacrosse season, the Orange Alumni Classic once again features two games. The first is a "Legend's Game" beginning at 1:30 p.m. The second match, which will begin at approximately 3 p.m., pits a team of recent SU alums against the 2014-15 Orange squad.
Both games are open to the public. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). All proceeds go directly to the men's lacrosse program. Parking is free in the surface lots across from the Dome.
The team that will oppose this year's Orange is highlighted by some of the sport's premier players, including 2014 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Offensive MVP Casey Powell, reigning MLL Goalie of the Year John Galloway, Team USA midfielder Matt Abbott and several more Orange pro lacrosse stars and former All-Americans.
This year's Colleluori Classic features several Division I, II and III teams. The annual event is dedicated to remembering the life and legacy of HEADstrong founder Nick Colleluori, a Hofstra lacrosse player, who died of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2006.
Led by five-time NCAA champion head coach John Desko, Syracuse is coming off an 11-5 season in which it advanced to the ACC title game and made its 34th NCAA Tournament appearance.
Syracuse returns seven of its 10 starters from a year ago, including attackman Kevin Rice who led the Orange with 80 points (36 goals, 44 assists) and earned 2014 USILA Second Team All-America honors.
