Orange, Irish Meet for ACC Championship

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The ACC Men's Soccer Tournament title is on the line when No. 13 Syracuse takes on No. 9 Notre Dame on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. The Orange is seeking its first ACC championship and its first conference crown since 1985.

Fans can watch the match on ESPN3. Tickets for the contest are $8 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors. Students from any ACC member institution will be admitted free of charge with a valid school ID.

SCOUTING THE ORANGE (12-5-3)
Syracuse is making its first appearance in the ACC Tournament final. The Orange is the No. 7 seed in the tournament. Syracuse defeated North Carolina State and tied North Carolina, but advanced by winning the penalty kick shootout, 4-3. The Orange then shut out Clemson, the No. 2 team in the nation, 2-0, in the semifinals.

Junior Ben Polk scored both goals in Syracuse's win at Clemson. He now leads the team with nine goals this season. In addition, his 22 points tie him for the fifth-highest total by a junior in program history.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING IRISH (11-3-5)
Notre Dame is also trying for its first ACC championship. The Fighting Irish finished second in the Coastal Division to earn a first-round bye in the conference tournament. Notre Dame defeated Boston College before beating top-ranked Wake Forest in the semifinals.

Jon Gallagher leads the Notre Dame offense. His nine goals and 21 points are both team highs. Overall, four players have reached double figures in points, including Evan Panken, who has recorded a team-best eight assists. Goalkeeper Chris Hubbard has recorded a 0.75 goals-against average and a .795 save percentage in 19 matches this season. He also has posted eight shutouts.

THE SERIES
Syracuse and Notre Dame will meet for the 17th time on Sunday. The teams will meet for the first on the Fighting Irish's home pitch for the first time since 2006. Last season, Notre Dame came to the SU Soccer Stadium on Sept. 13 as the No. 4 team in the nation. Syracuse was forced to play a man-down after a second yellow card on Skylar Thomas. On the ensuing free kick, the Fighting Irish scored on a header and recorded the 1-0 victory.

The winner of Sunday's match will earn the ACC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The full tournament field will be announced on Monday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. on NCAA.com.
