Cuse Shuts Down Nevada To Finish Weekend Strong

Jocelyn Cater and Sydney O’Hara combined for Syracuse’s first shutout of the season
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The Orange (7-8) finished the weekend on a high note, defeating Nevada (3-11), 6-0 after falling to No. 22/23 Texas A&M, 9-1. Jocelyn Cater and Sydney O'Hara combined for the first shutout of the season with Cater picking up her fourth win of 2015.

The Orange kicked things off in the top of the first with Maddi Doane reaching first on a walk. Fernandez advanced her to second and a wild pitch allowed her to reach third. Following Corinne Ozanne's walk, Julie Wambold and O'Hara recorded back-to-back singles to score Doane and Ozanne.

Syracuse struck again in the fifth when O'Hara doubled to left center to score Sammy Fernandez after she led off the inning with an infield single. Ozanne advanced to third on the O'Hara double and soon scored on a wild pitch to give Syracuse a 4-0 lead.

Alyssa Dewes kicked off the sixth with a single and after Doane walked and Fernandez reached on an error, Nevada walked Wambold to bring in Syracuse's fifth run of the game. In the bottom of the inning, Nevada threatened to Orange's lead with a one out, bases loaded situation but Doane put an end to the Wolfpack's hopes corralling a fly ball in right and gunning down the runner scrambling back to third for a inning ending double play.

Doane added some insurance in the seventh with an RBI single to score Annie Toczynski who was pinch running for Jocelyn Cater after she began the inning with a double to the right center gap. Jocelyn Cater threw five innings and struck out five while O'Hara allowed just one hit in the final two innings.

Defensive Effort Falls Short Against Texas A&M, 9-1
Corinne Ozanne got things started for the Orange with a solo shot in the first to take a 1-0 lead. However, any momentum 'Cuse had came to a halt after back-to-back errors allowed Texas A&M to score in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at one and back-to-back errors in the second led to the Aggies 6-1 advantage at the end of two.

Lindsey Larkin came in to pitch in the third and threw two consecutive scoreless innings until A&M scored one in the fifth on a two-out single to left. The Aggies finished off the Orange in the sixth with a two-run shot with two outs to defeat the Orange, 9-1 in six innings. Â
