Shaina Harrison picks up women's program's first ACC indoor gold
Shaina Harrison earned the first ever ACC indoor track and field gold medal for the Syracuse women's program to highlight a successful final day at the 2015 ACC Indoor Championships.
Harrison raced to a school-record time of 7.31 seconds in the 60-meter dash to claim gold for 'Cuse.
In addition to Harrison, three other members of the Orange found their way onto the medal stand for the Orange, with Donald Pollitt earning silver in the 60-meter hurdles, Martin Hehir winning silver in the 3000-meters and Regine Hunter taking bronze in the triple jump.
Hehir, who won Friday's 5k, narrowly missed another ACC Championship on Saturday, finishing in second in the 3000-meters with a new school-record time of 7:53.15. Hehir's time was just under three-tenths of a second off Virginia Tech's Thomas Curtin, but Hehir's time still serves as the 10th-best in the nation this season.
Kevyn Hoyos (8:13.48) and Philo Germano (8:14.98) took 12th and 15th respectively in the event behind Hehir.
Pollitt completed his race in 7.83 seconds, just four hundredths behind Miami's Christian Cook who won the event. David Gilstrap placed eighth for the Orange in the event.
Hunter leaped to a distance of 12.71 meters in the triple jump to earn her medal.
In the women's 60-meter hurdles, Syracuse rookie Sofia Mossberg just missed medaling, taking fourth with a time of 8.46 seconds.
Colin Bennie earned a fifth-place finish in the mile (4:04.84) and was followed closely by Joel Hubbard (4:07.85) who took eighth.
Rebecca Robinson earned points for 'Cuse in the 400-meter dash, taking seventh after completing the event in 54.17 seconds.
Following her second-place finish in the 5k on Friday, Margo Malone continued her success on Saturday taking eighth in the 3000-meters (9:23.51). Jessie Petersen finished 14th in the event (9:37.83).
The women's 4x400 team of Brittany Belo, Bria Goodson, Sabrina Cammock and Robinson took seventh (3:43.88) to complete the day.
Next up for the Orange is the NCAA Championships for those who qualified, beginning on Friday, March 13.
