Knight sets 1500-meter record

Jessie Peterson's victory in the 10k and Justyn Knight's 1500-meter victory at the Virginia Challenge highlighted this weekend's meets for the Syracuse track team.
Knight made his track debut for the Orange with a school-record time of 3:39.66 in the event. He bested Bruce Fischer's record of 3:40.00, which had stood since 1972. Joel Hubbard took 11th in the race (3:44.75).
Petersen's win in the 10k was with a time of 34:18.63, besting second-place finisher Kathleen Darling from Wake Forest by 24 seconds.
In the men's 10k, Kevyn Hoyos was 'Cuse's top finisher, taking seventh overall with a time of 29:38.69. Max Straneva was close behind in ninth (29:45.85).
At Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational, Shaylyn Tuite and Rebecca Skodis turned in fast times in the 5k, with Tuite taking 10th with a time of 16:54.73, and Skodis in 13th (16:57.25).
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Sydney Leiher led the Orange, taking 10th in a time of 10:33.03.
The Orange are back in action next weekend at the Penn Relays, beginning on Wednesday.
