Syracuse track & field is closer to having a new home! Construction for the new track & field complex is just a few months shy of completion.
The eight-lane NCAA competition track located at Skytop, on the University's South Campus, has a target date for use in mid-July.
The project began in conjunction with the construction of the Ensley Athletic Center, one of the premiere indoor practice facilities in the nation primarily being used by the Syracuse football and lacrosse programs.
The Ensley Athletic Center was constructed on the site of the Joseph Vielbig Outdoor Track Stadium, the previous home of the Syracuse track and field programs, prompting Syracuse to build brand new facility for the program which features the 19th-ranked men's team – the first time the team has been ranked in the top-20 in school history.
"We are grateful to have a new facility for our cross country and track and field programs which will allow for greater flexibility to train the more than 80 student-athletes in our program. It will undoubtedly help us achieve our goal of competing for championships," said head coach Chris Fox at the beginning of the project.
The facility, which will be open to use by members of the community, will feature field turf in the middle of the track that is striped for women's lacrosse.
