The 'Cuse long snapper marks the 10th member of the Orange to receive an NFL opportunity
Syracuse long snapper and 2014 team captain Sam Rodgers is the third member of the 2014 Orange to accept an invitation to the Buffalo Bills rookie minicamp this weekend.
The State College, Pa. native will be joined by Darius Kelly and Prince-Tyson Gulley at the Bills minicamp, and Rodgers marks the 10th member of the 2014 Orange to sign either a free agent contract or accept a minicamp invitation.
Rodgers, the Doris Soladay Award recipient at the ninth-annual 'Cuse Awards, which is considered the most prestigious honor given to a student-athlete by the Department of Athletics, Rodgers started every game at long snapper since arriving on campus.
He was elected team captain for the 2014 season, becoming one of two FBS snappers to be elected as a team captain. Off the field, Rodgers serves as the president of the Syracuse University chapter of Uplifting Athletes, and is a student leader of the Syracuse University Fellowship of Christian Athletes. For the past two years, Rodgers has participated in mission trips to Haiti with family and other Syracuse student-athletes, assisting with projects and working with children at an orphanage.
A 2014 All-ACC Academic Team honoree, Rodgers has been a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all eight semesters. He is also the recipient of the 2014-15 ACC Post-Graduate Scholarship, and was named a 2014 AFCA Good Works Team recipient. He was also elected in to the NFF Hampshire Honor Society this year.
In addition to the trio of Bills invitees, seven other members of the 2014 Orange will have opportunities at the next level, with Sean Hickey signing with the New Orleans Saints, Eric Crume inking a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Durell Eskridge joining the New York Jets, Cameron Lynch signing with the St. Louis Rams and Dyshawn Davis joining the Washington Redskins. Brandon Reddish (Oakland Raiders) and Jarrod West (New York Jets) will also be working out at minicamps in the next two weeks.
Tickets for the 2015 season are available online, by phone (888-DOMETIX), at Destiny USA kiosks and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). In addition, discounted group tickets (20+), with prices as low as $10 each, are available for all home games by calling the Ticket Sales office (443-3212).
