Team USA Tryouts to Have an Orange Flavor

The Orange had seven selections on last year's national team.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Nine either current or former members of the Orange will represent Syracuse this weekend at the U.S. women's lacrosse national team tryouts. The pool of 108 players will try out June 12-14 at Johns Hopkins University.

Rising senior Kayla Treanor was a member of last year's national squad as well as the 2011 U.S. Under-19 team that won the World Championship. Treanor was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award as well as the Honda Award this season and tied for fifth in the nation in scoring with 91 points. Rising senior Halle Majorana also recorded 91 points this season and was an IWLCA All-America First Team selection. She is trying out for Team USA for the first time.

They will be joined by 2015 graduate Kailah Kempney. Kempney ended her Syracuse career as the school's all-time leader in draw controls. She earned second-team IWLCA All-America honors this season and is a first-time national team pool selection. Three former IWLCA Players of the Year – Liz Hogan '11, Becca Block '13 and Michelle Tumolo '13 – will also take part in the tryouts as will All-Americans Alyssa Murray '14, Kasey Mock '14 and Katie Webster '14. Hogan, All six were members of the 2014-15 squad.

After the three-day tryout, approximately 36-40 players will be selected to the 2015-16 U.S. women's national team, which will train in preparation for the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup in Guildford, England. Ultimately, 18 players will represent the U.S. as the squad goes for its third consecutive and eighth overall world title.
