Crittenden and Pollitt Shine at USATF Championships
6/28/2015 5:02:00 PM | Track and Field
Syracuse hurdlers Freddie Crittenden and Donald Pollitt turned in impressive performances in the 110-meter hurdles at the USA Track and Field Nationals this weekend, with Crittenden coming away with a 10th-place finish and Pollitt taking 21st.
Â
Crittenden advanced to Sunday's semifinals at Hayward Field in Oregon, by posting a time of 13.67 seconds, Pollitt was close behind at 13.89 seconds, but missed being one of the top-16 to advance by one-tenth of a second.
Â
On Sunday, Crittenden, a rising junior, bested his performance with a time of 13.62 seconds, which gave him a 10th-place finish overall. Crittenden's finish was the best among collegiate athletes.
Former Syracuse standout and 2012 National Champion in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Jarret Eaton finished 17th, one spot out of qualifying for Sunday's semifinals. Eaton finished second at USATF Indoor Nationals in the 60-meter hurdles this winter.
Â
The field featured some of the world's-best hurdlers, including current world record holder Aries Merritt, who finished fourth on Sunday, Jason Richardson who took silver at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and finished second, and David Oliver, who earned bronze at the 2008 Olympics, who won the event.
Both Crittenden and Pollitt earned Second Team All-America honors this spring at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, at the same venue. It was Pollitt's second time earning All-America honors after earning first team accolades in 2013.
The Syracuse trio's performance at the event continues a long list of successes for members of the Orange this season. Syracuse qualified eight student-athletes -- the most in over 30 years -- for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Seven student-athletes came away with All-America honors and an eighth earning honorable mention.
'Cuse picked up four ACC Champions between the indoor and outdoor seasons and the men's team cracked the USTFCCCA top-20 for the first time in program history.
The Syracuse men also finished 15th in the USTFCCCA year-end standings that takes into account an institutions performance across cross country, indoor and outdoor track seasons.
