Julian Buescher scores twice in win at Connecticut.
STORRS, Conn. – Sophomore Julian Buescher scored two goals to lead No. 15 Syracuse to a 2-1 victory at RV Connecticut on Saturday, Aug. 22 in its final tune up for the 2015 regular season. The Orange posted a 2-1 record in its three exhibition contests.
Â
The Huskies scored their only goal in the 23rd minute. Connecticut played the ball into the box off a free kick. Istvan Kanyo eventually took possession and fired his shot into the bottom left corner to give UConn a 1-0 lead.
Â
Syracuse evened the score six minutes later when junior Oyvind Alseth took the ball down the left wing and cut the ball back to Buescher, who one-timed it into the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1.
Â
The score remained deadlocked until the 70th minute when Buescher took a pass from redshirt sophomore Kenny Lassiter at the top of the box, got by his defender and curled his shot into the top corner to give the Orange the lead for good.
Â
Syracuse's defense limited Connecticut to eight shots, many from long distance as just three were on frame. Freshman goalkeeper Austin Aviza recorded two saves, including a diving save to tip a UConn shot over the crossbar with 10 minutes remaining in the game to maintain Syracuse's one-goal advantage. He posted his second consecutive victory in goal.
Â
The Orange will officially open the 2015 campaign on Friday, August 28 at Hofstra at 7 p.m.
