Three players score in the win.
The No. 2 Syracuse field hockey team stayed perfect by downing previously unbeaten No. 4 Virginia, 3-1 on Friday at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
'Cuse used three goals from three student-athletes to improve to 8-0 and 3-0 in the ACC on the season.
The Orange got on the board first, when Serra Degnan found the back of the net off a rebound following a 'Cuse corner. The goal was Degnan's second on the season and came just over 10 minutes into the contest.
15 minutes later, the Cavaliers knotted things up at one when Katie Kelly's first shot attempt hit the post, but she stuck with it and buried the rebound for the equalizer.
With under two minutes remaining in the half, Alma Fenne notched the go ahead goal off a restart. She took the ball dribbled into the middle of the circle and rifled a backhand shot that found the top-right corner of the cage.
Following halftime, Syracuse's defense locked in, allowing just one second half shot, while the Orange tallied eight.
One of which found the back of the net on a fast break from Liz Sack. Sack, who had a defensive save earlier in the contest, grabbed a stretch pass and dribbled it down the field into the circle, drawing out the goalkeeper. She moved left and fired the game's final goal with 20 minutes to play, putting the game out of reach.
Jess Jecko made a pair of saves in net for Syracuse, who as a team out-shot Virginia 14-8.
Next up is a non-conference game against No. 17 Boston University on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will be Girl Scout Day, with the first 100 fans receiving a free Orange foam stick.
