The sophomore has three goals and an assist on the afternoon
Sophomore Roos Weers' three goals and an assist powered the No. 2 Syracuse field hockey team past No. 17 Boston University 5-1 on Sunday to remain unbeaten.
The Orange (9-0, 3-0 ACC) used a four-goal second half output to defeat the Terriers (6-3, 3-0 Patriot), which has been common for Syracuse, which owns a 21-3 advantage after halftime this season.
Weers got the goal scoring started 14:34 into the game, when she buried a pass from Alma Fenne following a Syracuse corner attempt.
It was the only goal of the first half despite Syracuse putting six of its 12 first-half shots on cage.
Three minutes after halftime, Emma Russell recorded her first of two goals on the day. She took a feed from Fenne down into the right side of the cage and fired a shot through traffic and into the back of the net.
It was Weers again 10 minutes into the second half that gave 'Cuse a 3-0 lead. After Lies Lagerweij drew the defense on a corner, she sent a pass onto the stick of Weers who beat Terriers' goalkeeper Cammy Jensen for the score.
Weers then set up Russell 10 minutes later. She sent a long cross-field pass from the near sideline to the top of the circle for Russell, who fired a high shot which clanged off the crossbar and into the net.
Weers then capped off her hat trick with 11 minutes to play, scoring off a deflection on another Syracuse corner, the team drew eight on the afternoon, for the team's fifth and final goal.
Boston's Ally Hammel scored the Terriers' lone goal with 3:23 to play after she took a shot from point-blank range into the top of the net after she came away with the ball through heavy traffic in front of Orange goalkeeper Jess Jecko.
The goal was the lone blemish on the day for Jecko, who made three saves in the win.
The Orange finished with a 25-7 shots advantage and an 8-1 advantage on corners.
Next, Syracuse will host Monmouth on Friday at 4 p.m.
