Orange Name 2017 Captains

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse has named its captains for the 2017 season. Seniors Haley McDonnell and Kelsey Youmell, redshirt junior Taylor Gait and junior Riley Donahue will lead this year's team. Gait will serve as a team captain for the second consecutive year.

McDonnell, a two-year starter, played in 24 games last season. The defender recorded 17 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and two draw controls. McDonnell was a member of the 2016 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll and is a six-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor.

Youmell played in 15 contests in 2016, making two starts. She recorded career highs in draw controls (5) and caused turnovers (2). She is a five-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Gait finished sixth on the team in scoring last season with 25 points on 20 goals and five assists. She also picked up 15 ground balls and caused eight turnovers, both of which were career highs. Gait was a member of the 2015 NCAA All-Tournament Team.

Donahue posted career highs in every offensive category last season, recording 68 points on 47 goals and 21 assists. She ranked second on the squad in goals and third in points. Donahue earned All-Northeast Region First Team honors and was selected to the ACC All-Academic Team.

Syracuse finished the 2016 season with a 19-6 overall record. The Orange advanced to the national semifinals for the fifth consecutive season.
