No. 8 Syracuse (8-3, 4-2 ACC) welcomes No. 23 Pittsburgh (5-6, 2-5 ACC) to the JMA Wireless Dome for an early morning tilt on Saturday.
Opening Draw
The Orange come into Saturday's contest winners of eight straight, including ranked wins over then-ranked No. 13 Loyola, No. 4 Northwestern, No. 7 Yale and No. 19 Virginia. Syracuse has also played the nation's top strength of schedule on its way to the 8-3 record.
Dan Guyette and Molly Guzik were both named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List this past week, joining teammates Coco Vandiver and Emma Muchnick as the Orange's representatives on the list.
Defense, Defense, Defense
Syracuse has held opponents to just 7.0 goals per game this season, the fourth-best mark in the nation, against the toughest strength of schedule in the country. Over the last six games, foes have averaged just 5.0 goals against the Orange.
Izzy Lahah has been crucial to the backline, leading the team with 29 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls. She was tabbed the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on March 3. Meanwhile, Vandiver is just one caused turnover away from becoming Syracuse's all-time program leader in the category with 102.
Guyette ranks fourth nationally in goals against average at 7.1 and is second in the ACC in save percentage (.493). She was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week after her performances against Yale and Virginia, posting 15 saves at a .600 save percentage over that stretch.
Get the Ball to Guzik
Guzik has been the offensive engine for Syracuse all season, racking up 33 points on 27 goals and six assists. She has scored in all 11 games this year, including a personal-best six-goal performance at Northwestern that earned her ACC Offensive Player of the Week and USA Lacrosse Magazine's Division I Player of the Week honors. Guzik has tallied three or more goals in four games this season.
Offensive Leaders
Caroline Trinkaus is second on the team in goals scored with 15, paired with five assists for 20 points on the season. She capped off last week's win at UAlbany with a hat trick.
Mackenzie Rich has had a career year with 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists, leading the team in the latter category. Ashlee Volpe is close behind with 14 points on seven goals and seven assists, including a career-high four assists against Loyola.
Scouting Pittsburgh
The Panthers come to Syracuse at 5-6 overall and 2-5 in ACC play. Pittsburgh is strong defensively, holding opponents to 10.4 goals per game while causing 10.1 turnovers per contest.
Avery Moon leads the Panthers with 40 points on 22 goals and 18 assists, while Kaitlyn Giandonato paces the team with 30 goals. Goalkeeper Molly Cain has recorded 89 saves and a .447 save percentage this season.
